Being Chic for your Christmas Party 2011

Corporate Christmas Parties is inevitably part of every corporate professional's December calendar of events.  Dressing for these occasions gives a chance for a regular employee to show off their fashion sense and style.  For this year's holiday season, key elements and details on dresses and styling are predicted to create an outstanding impression for the otherwise, dull and boring corporate look of any office employee.

One-shouldered Dress
From the red carpet to cocktail parties (your own Christmas party), this 2011 trend gave sexiness once again to the asymmetrical look.  Whether it's a single sleeveless or a single long-sleeved style, this is one look that can create a more flattering look for anyone, and add a touch of confidence to the wearer.

Job Interview Tip: Don't 'make-up'... Do "Make-down"

These days, having an impressive resume is not the only factor that can help a job hunter get the job she desires.  Creating an excellent first impression is another factor that an interviewer may consciously or subconsciously be aware of in deciding whether or not you would fit into their company's needs.  First impressions, of course, involve being able to create that most credible appearance during the first moment a job seeker meets the interviewer for the first time.
As for most females, here are some tips on the ideal job interveiw make-up:

-"Less is More.." Concealer, sheer pressed powder are your best make-up tools for any job interview.  No need for a full coverage foundation or heavy powder.  Remember, you are meeting one or two persons in a room, not an entire audience in a theater.

Q&A: Can we match navy blue socks with brown shoes?

More than once, I've been in a debate about wearing navy blue socks with brown shoes...  I concede defeat when I know it's a losing battle, but I try my best to press on what I think the right answer is.  And so the perfect opportunity to get the right answer from the expert came along, when I attended the 4th Image Forum, organized by the AICI Philippine Chapter.

Photo from esquire.com

Mr. Bill Daland, Modern Sartorialist and classic men's wear enthusiast spoke earlier about the essence of men's business wear.  He talked about the history of men's business wear (e.g., modern men's suit takes its inspiration from military clothing of the 1800s), the elements of men's business wear, faux pas in men's professional appearance.  Aside from being an informative talk, we learned so much about the background of men's business clothing too.

And so, during the open forum, I finally asked: "Bill, is it really okay to wear navy blue socks with brown shoes?"

The answer?

Color Strategies for an empowered Professional Image

In my business and others, I have observed that in one's professional appearance, an aspect that can affect impressions of others is through the colors that an individual chooses for his outfit.  In my experience, awareness and education on colors, I have discovered that colors can play a role on getting the job, maintaining the attention of your audience and advancing in one's career.  I'm not just talking about color analysis (analyzing one's coloring of skin, hair and eyes and finding out the best colors to wear), I am also talking about the Psychology of Color.

Here are some basic impressions and image of colors when one wears it or sees it on others:

Woman in red suit.
RED

Red typically is associated with passion, energetic, and considered an attention grabbing color.

Women in red suits can make a powerful impact in entering a room.  When a female saleswoman wears red lipstick, this can be a way of keeping the attention of her prospective clients.

Red also shows positivity, being extroverted and dynamic for the wearer.

Be a better conversationalist

Our conversations have become a part of our everyday activities.  Through conversation, we also reveal a little bit about who we are.  When a person walks away from a conversation, he or she has increased their knowledge about the other person.  It has become important for us to now create that positive image through our different conversations.

Enjoy and learn from a good conversation!
There are several tips and techniques that we can consciously and subconsciously apply to increase our mingling proficiency.  Remember that conversations aren’t only building blocks of relationships.  It can also be a platform of presenting who we are in a casual manner.  Here are some ways of improving our conversational skills:

Adding poise to your style

Sure, you have the best clothes in town, the right make-up and hairstyle and probably a bag that may cost a few months salary for some people.  But if your carriage lacks that spark that makes others say "There's something about that woman...", then all your investment on yourself might be useless, as people may not even notice you go by.  Sometimes, they may even create a negative impression of you.

So it is essential that no matter what style, wardrobe or look you want to have, you match these with the poised, confident and powerful carriage.  One's carriage is usually defined by a person's walk, body language, mannerisms and posture.  Power and confidence in one's carriage can definitely attract more people and create that great first impression that you may want to have.

Building your Image Business

It's been almost a year since Global Image Management came into existence.  Looking back, I realize that there were several valuable steps that I was able to take even before starting my own Image Company.  This made the whole journey of building my own Image company smoother and with little bumps along way.  How exactly did I begin this journey?  And what can you learn from my experience?

First, you need to have to passion and a determined goal towards the image business.  I have to admit, building my business and my name has been challenging at times, but it was my passion for teaching that pulled me through.  If you have the desire to improve someone else's life for their development and success, you're on the right track towards success.

Tip of the day: Dining Etiquette

The general rule for dining is to use your utensils from the outermost going in.  There are some table settings, however, that may be confusing for some, as the placement of the utensils are not the perceived "typical" setting, just like this photo of a Formal Dinner Place Setting:
photo from: http://www.hungrymonster.com/
In this case, the first course is the soup, second the salad, then a sorbet is served, followed by the main course, and the dessert is the last course.  As you can see, one can easily be confused as to which utensil is next.

Global Image Management gives back!

Last January 26, Global Image Management held a seminar on Enhancing the Appearance through Skincare, Make-up and Hairstyling for the beneficiaries and employees of Tahanang Walang Hagdanan.  Ever Bilena took part in the event by sponsoring the make-up products used by the participants and gave gift packs as well.  The event is a philantrophy project by Global Image Management and myself for the 1st quarter of the year 2011.

Tahanang Walang Hagdanan has always been close to my heart, as I've always been aware of their cause since I was a student at St. Theresa's College (TWH and STC are both founded by ICM sisters). As I work with them closely in my adult life, I can see their passion towards expanding themselves beyond limits!  This passion has fueled my own as well.

Thank you so much TWH headed by Ms. Joy C. Garcia, with the help of Ms. Angel Villafuerte and Ms. Maricel Abary for allowing myself and GIM to share our expertise on Enhancing the Image.

Here are some photos of the event!

Image Forum 3 Insights

I just attended the 3rd Image Forum at Hotel Celeste tonight, and it was another amazing learning experience.  In all my trainings, I've always said that everyone has room for improvement, and that includes myself.  Tonight, I have enhanced my knowledge in speaking yet again as I listened to Ms. Dina Loomis' topic on Mastering your Presentation Skills.  Truly, speech can change our lives!

Another topic during the Image Forum 3 is Enhancing Negotiation Skills by Mr. Orly Tugob.  I was much enlightened with the peals of wisdom he had shared with us during the forum.  Discovering our negotiation style, being in a win-win situation and understanding the needs of each party are some points he emphasized on.

The energy in the room was truly positive, as most participants showed interest and participation in the 3-hour forum.  Some continued to discuss the points presented by the speakers during the fellowship after the forum.  Truly the Image Forum Series has been getting richer with information and value!

Photos will be coming soon.  We hope to see more image enthusiasts (and anyone for that matter) in our future Image Forums.

For the next image forum, the topics will be on Color and Men's Wardrobe!  We'll keep you posted on this blog!

Fashion Colors for this summer 2011: light and muted

Based on various authorities in fashion and colors, the fashion color trend this spring/summer 2011 seems to be an interesting combination of some warm and cool colors, particularly the lighter and muted tones of pink, green, blue and certain neutral colors.

Designers like Badgley Mischka, Christian Siriano and our very own Monique Lhuillier have cited exotic locations like Turkey, India and Africa as some of the influences in this spring's color trends.

According to the Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2011, the top 10 spring colors for women are as follows:  Honeysuckle, russet, coral rose, regatta, blue curacao, peapod, beeswax, lavender, silver peony, and silver cloud.

Analyzing Color Analysis

Did you know that for each individual, there are particular colors that would "empower" or complement their looks and features?  It was realized a few decades ago that certain colors bring out the best in certain individuals.  This was the beginning of Color Analysis and Image consulting.

What exactly is color analysis and how would I know my best colors?  Color analysis is a system or a process used by image consultants in finding out each individuals true "best" colors.  Consultants have different techniques in doing this.  In my case, I use drapes and color flags to determine my students' or clients' best colors.  The goal is for them to discover what are the best colors for them to have and to wear, as these colors are the ones that complement their skin, hair and eye color.

You will notice that one of the photos of myself stands out more than the other.  Can you guess which of the two is my best color? Find out after the break!
